"Cares for Kids" CMN Radiothon

This last Wednesday, February 16th-Friday, February 18th Sanford Children's Hospital in Fargo held their 11th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon.  Bob 95, Y-94, and Popster FM participated in the event and strongly encourage listeners to donate. With a goal of $112,000, they made it and even had a record setting year!  All the money raised for this event stays in Fargo at the Sanford Children's Hospital to help local children.

I was very excited to be a part of this event.  I volunteered a couple different times at this event as a representive for the Miss Moorhead Scholarship Program and the NDSU Habitat for Humanity Chapter. My job was to answer phone calls from people who called in to donate after listening to the inspiring stories of people who have overcame many obstacles.  One story that grabbed my attention and inspired me the most was of an 11 month old baby girl.  In December of 2009, she was involved in a serious car accident and rushed to the hospital.  Soon after arriving they declared her brain dead and the family had a very challenging decision to make.  The family decided to end her own life, but continue to have her live through others.  Her organs were donated to other patients in need and ended up saving 29 other people!

The money is used to stay up to date with the continuously changing technology and the next best thing to help these children.  It helps pay for PS3 video game systems and toys so they can feel comfortable and "at home".  Also, the money pays for Child Life Specialists, Pediatric Occupational Therapists, Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist, and Life Alert flights.

CMN Phone-a-thon

Last night I volunteered my time at the Sanford Children's hospital in hopes to raise money for Children's Miracle Network.  I spent two hours calling past donors encouraging them to donate to this great cause again this year.  Out of the 13 people I actually talked to, $185 was raised just by me!  There were seven other volunteers there who raised between $50-175.  It was a very successful night and it will be taking place again tomorrow night, so if you live in the Red River Valley area, stay close to your phone!

Continue to support local charities close to your heart and if you want to help me raise money for Children's Miracle Network through the Miss America organization, you can click on the picture of Alfunz and me in the top right corner.

Thank you for your support,

Home Is Where The Art Is

This Saturday from 6:30-9:30 the Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity (LAHFH) will be hosting a very creative fundraiser.  Tickets are $20 at the door for this 21+ event that will include wine tasting, appetizers, and unique art designs made out of recycled materials from the Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  The art pieces will be auctioned off in order to raise money for new builds this spring/summer!  This year, LAHFH will be building in Barnesville, MN for the first time!  I am so excited to build there and help a new community because this is where one of my best friends grew up.

An art piece that will be auctioned off tomorrow night!
